Top 5 Ways to Practice Stress Relief at Home
March 31, 2020
Aromatherapy is a therapeutic modality that takes (mostly) essential oils and uses them to assist with holistic healing. This practice has been said to help people clear their minds, focus, relieve stress and promote an overall sense of wellbeing. Many are turning to aromatherapy in some way to help them get through the feelings of anxiety and isolation as we are “staying in to stay safe” during the Coronavirus pandemic. Haven’t tried aromatherapy, but would like to since you’re already staying in? Here are a few ways to introduce aromatherapy into your daily routine at home.
Essential Oils w/ Diffuser
Invest in a bottle or two or three of essential oils and add a couple drops to a diffuser. The aroma will waft through your space and relax you or energize you depending on the oil you choose. The most popular essential oils include lavender, peppermint and any member of the citrus family (lemon, orange, grapefruit etc).
Aromatherapy Roll On
The aromatherapy roll on is one of my favorite ways to reap the benefits of aromatherapy. It’s affordable, plus you can carry it around with you and whip it out whenever you need a quick pick me up. What is it exactly? It’s essential oils mixed with a carrier oil (I like to use coconut oil) in a roll on bottle that allows you to take a quick whiff or safely apply to your skin.
Scented Stovetop
Don’t have essential oils on hand but still want the “scent experience”? You can get in an aromatherapy session (and freshen your home at the same time) by utilizing your stovetop. Here’s a quick recipe with items you more than likely already have on hand. Place 3 cups water in a small saucepan and add a sliced lemon, a sliced orange, a cinnamon stick and a few sprigs of mint…if you have peppermint tea just open the bag and add the contents. Bring the combination to a very low simmer and the scent will fill your home. That’s it! You’re all set!
